It is important to remember those who have come before us and sacrificed under difficult circumstances. A family story is like a familiar breeze which uplifts, inspires, and ties our remembrances of the past to our sacred duty to future generations.
My grandmother Yanabah made countless sacrifices for others throughout her life. Whether foregoing an education in order to raise siblings, or simply sharing food when times were tough, she was an example of selfless service.
The strength of an ancestor can be felt for generations. I invite you to share your stories of an inspiring family member who has left a lasting mark. You may find that doing so will reacquaint you with the blessings from the past. If you share a story regarding an individual of Native decent, please indicate which tribe or tribes they are from.
